CLEARFIELD COUNTY, Pa (WJAC) — Penn Highlands Health has been ordered to pay $735,000 to the federal government to settle false claims.
The Department of Justice announced Tuesday that Penn Highlands hospitals, including DuBois medical center, agreed to the payment.
The DOJ says the health system paid two doctors, who weren’t employed by them at the time, through submissions of false claims to Medicare and Medicaid.
The release from the agency says the violations happened from 2009 to 2012 and was brought to its attention by a whistle blower.

Windber post office to temporarily close for repairs
Windber, PA (WJAC) — Officials with the United States Postal Service say the post office in Windber will be temporarily closed for repairs.
USPS officials say the closure will begin at the end of the business day on Saturday.
During the closure, officials say local residents will be able to access their mail at the post office in Elton.
The postal service says the repairs to the Windber facility are expected to last approximately one month.

man facing felony charges after attempting to run a family member over with his car
CLEARFIELD COUNTY, Pa. — A Clearfield County man is behind bars after assaulting a family member and then an EMT August 29, state police say.
According to a press release, police were called to a home on the 600 block of Laura Street just after 7 p.m. in Chester Hill Boro for a report of a disturbance.
State police said that, upon arrival, they discovered that Gary Quick, 45, had assaulted a family member by trying to run them over with a vehicle.

Pennsylvania Senate approves earlier 2024 presidential primary
HARRISBURG, Pa. (AP) — Pennsylvania's state Senate approved a bill Wednesday to move up the state's 2024 primary election by five weeks to March 19, aiming to avoid a conflict with the Jewish holiday of Passover and give voters more of a say in deciding presidential nominees.
The bill passed, 45-2, although it still requires passage in the state House of Representatives.
Under the bill, the primary election would move from April 23 to March 19, the same primary date as in Ohio, Florida, Illinois, Kansas and Arizona.

MIDLAND, Mich. (AP) — A woman who was living inside a sign on the roof of a Michigan grocery store told police it was an “old safe spot” known to her family, though she didn't explain why she chose to stay there for a year, according to video of the encounter.

Video shows suspect running over man twice with car, kissing and stabbing his body
HOUSTON (TND) — Shocking video obtained by a station in Texas shows a suspect running over a man twice and then kissing and stabbing his body.
The Ring footage obtained by KTRK shows a man, who the station identified as Steven Anderson, walking down a street on May 3 to pick up his mail. A car then comes screeching into the frame and hits him. KTRK identified the driver of the vehicle as 20-year-old Karon Fisher.

Wildfire in Jefferson County contained, fire officials say
JEFFERSON COUNTY, Pa. (WJAC) — We're still following a wildfire in Jefferson County that's burnt thousands of acres of land, requiring crews from multiple counties to assist.
