WINGATE, Pa. (WJAC) — Crews responded to a late-night fire in Wingate.
Flames broke out at Kelly's Diner in the 800 block of South Eagle Valley Road.
Heavy smoke could be seen coming out of the building.
The diner just opened within the past few months.
Fire Chief Corey Bowmaster described what the first responders were dealing with.
“It started in the basement, and the exhaust fan in the kitchen was dispersing smoke, and with it being in the basement, it was filling up before the fire came out,” Bowmaster explained.

SOMERSET, Pa. (WJAC) — Somerset County's president judge has ruled that District Attorney Jeff Thomas can no longer conduct his duties as the chief prosecutor of the county in the courthouse, while an out-of-county senior judge agreed to dismiss a protection from abuse order filed by the victim of the sexual assault case against him.
The motions come two days after the Pennsylvania Supreme Court Disciplinary Counsel suspended Thomas' law license indefinitely while the legal proceedings against him play out.

After-school 'Satan club' at PA middle school continues to face scrutiny
Hellertown, PA (CNN) — An after-school club being formed at a Pennsylvania school is getting a lot of attention.
The group is called the "After school Satan Club."
The Satanic Temple says it gives students an alternative to Christian clubs.

Local apple orchard benefits from warm, fall weather
NEW PARIS, Pa. (WJAC) — The start of fall has been particularly warm and sunny the past couple of weeks, giving people great weather to go out and enjoy fall activities.
Six News visited Boyer Orchard in Bedford County, where apple-growing season is almost complete. One of the owners says the sunny weather has given their apples an even sweeter taste.

Missouri lawmaker's daughter, son-in-law killed in horrifying Haitian gang attack
JEFFERSON CITY, Mo. (TND) — Missouri state Rep. Ben Baker, R-Neosho, said Friday his daughter and her husband were killed during a mission trip to Haiti.

HUNTINGDON COUNTY, Pa. (WJAC) — A historical site that experts call one of the most important in the state is in Huntingdon County.
Sheep Rock Shelter, located at Raystown Lake, is getting a new review with new technology.
"Thousands of years ago, this rock began to form at Sheep Rock Shelter," said Jim Herbstritt of the State Museum of Pennsylvania.
Sheep Rock Shelter was first discovered in the 1950s. It's an archaeological discovery that's given residents a peek into live here up to thousands of years ago.

Biden leads Trump among New York State voters by only 7 points, poll shows
ALBANY, N.Y. (TND) — President Joe Biden is leading former President Donald Trump among New York State voters by only seven points, according to an Emerson College Polling/The Hill/PIX11 survey released Thursday.
Forty-eight percent of respondents pledged support for Biden in a head-to-head matchup, compared to 41% for the presumptive Republican nominee. The survey also showed Trump with a 10-point advantage over Biden among Independent voters.
The poll is the latest showing of the president’s weakened New York support.
