PHILADELPHIA (TND) — Philadelphia Sheriff Rochelle Bilal appeared before her city council at a budget hearing last week asking for nearly $2 million for her department, saying it was understaffed and underfunded.

Portage man charged for sexually abusing several girls dating back to late 90s
BLAIR CO, Pa (WJAC) — Troopers say a 64-year-old Portage man is facing charges for sexually abusing multiple young girls since the late 1990s, according to a criminal complaint.
Investigators say David Dobrowolsky faces multiple counts of indecent assault, corruption of minors and indecent exposure, according to court documents.
Hollidaysburg state police say they began investigating Dobrowolsky in March of this year after receiving reports that he had molested two young girls.

Steelers release OT Okorafor, punter Harvin
PITTSBURGH (WJAC) — The Pittsburgh Steelers made several key roster moves on Monday.
Along with the decision to "mutually part ways" with quarterback Mitch Trubisky, Pittsburgh also announced that offensive tackle Chuks Okorafor and punter Pressley Harvin III have been cut from the team.
Harvin was drafted in the 7th round of the 2021 draft, while Okorafor was selected in the third round in 2018.

UPMC Altoona recognized for maternity care
Blair Co., PA (WJAC) — Altoona is one of eight UPMC hospitals being recognized as a 2023-24 high performing hospital for maternity care by U.S. News and World Report.
This is the highest award a hospital can get, and less than half of the nearly 680 hospitals evaluated received a high performing designation.
Across its hospitals with obstetric services, UPMC delivers close to 25,000 babies each year.
Officials say staff in the labor and delivery department don’t view the expectant parents as just patients, but as family and friends.

Downtown Bedford Inc. hosting online auction of unique Christmas trees
BEDFORD, Pa (WJAC) — Downtown Bedford Inc. has several initiatives going to help raise money for new Christmas lights in the borough, as the current ones are approximately 20-years-old.
The centerpiece of the effort is a Christmas tree auction.
The auction is run through 32auctions.com and bidding is done online.
The trees are visible in the M&T Bank window, located at the intersection of Pitt and Juliana streets.
Bidding runs through December 12th and the auction features several unique trees.

Mother arrested after 7-year-old daughter's body found decaying in apartment closet
WASHINGTON (TND) — The mother of a 7-year-old girl was arrested and is facing charges after her daughter's body was found decaying in a vacant apartment closet. Alondra Hobbs, 27, was charged with felony murder and cruelty in the second degree, DeKalb County Police Department said. The department's spokesperson told The Associated Press that Hobbs was at a hospital. According to a police report, the body of Alivia Hobbs-Jordan was discovered by officers at the Hidden Valley Apartment Complex outside of Atlanta on June 25 after a neighbor reported the dead child in the empty apartment.
